Why PDF?
PDF is a big improvement over web pages for printed worksheets.
PDF was designed for printing.
PDF page formatting is more precise.
PDF pages look better than web pages when printed.
PDF pages don't have the headers and footers that browsers include on printed pages.
PDF pages print the same way on all computers.
HTML is nice, but it was never intended for precise page layout on the printed page. Offering the free worksheets in HTML involves some compromises, and the results don't always work for everyone, particularly people accessing the site on a Mac.
PDF pages are not subject to differences between browsers, such as margin widths, font selection, font height, character spacing, print resolution, etc. If you are having trouble printing the free worksheets on this site, PDF format worksheets will solve the problem.
To see the difference, print out these worksheets:

Sample Long Division PDF worksheet
Sample Multiple Digit Subtraction PDF worksheet
The PDF worksheets are created on-the-fly just like the web page worksheets. They download just as quickly. There may be a slight delay while Acrobat Reader opens.
PDF files require Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is free. If you don't have it, you can get it here.
